I love Emery!!!!

He is looking good! I am so excited for the up-coming season!

I <3 Ray Emery, yes I do!

I tried to write about the hearing yesterday but I am just not inspired by it. I had notes and a start but I gave up. I just wasn't feeling it and if I didn't get it up tonight, there really was no point in writing it.

In other news....

FLYERS HAVE SIGNED RAY EMERY TO A ONE YEAR DEAL.

As much as I love the Flyers and Emery, I am a little leary about this. Has Emery learned his lesson? Can he buckle down enough to let his on ice skills shine through? Does he have what it takes to be a #1 in the NHL again? I am glad the Flyers signed him to a one year deal. It says, don't screw up, this is your last chance.

Could you imagine a bench clearing brawl involving Ray Emery and Daniel Carcillo?!? Oh man, that is the things dreams are made of! Ok... maybe my dreams.

I read someone's opinion that said Emery could be the Flyers new Hextall. I don't know if I agree with that but if Emery can be half the goalie Hextall was, I would be one happy camper!

I am so totally going to have to figure out how to afford a trip to Philly and a ticket to the Flyers next season. I believe they will be coming to Phoenix also, but once a season is just not enough!!!!

OMG, can the season start already??

Quick Flyers Update!

I decided to watch the Preds at Flyers game since I found a live stream online. Wow, I had almost forget how much fun the Flyers are to watch.

Carcillo had his first fight as a Flyer against de Vries. Almost immediately after Cote got into one too. I guess he couldn’t let Danny show him up or something. :)

And Biron has been spot on tonight. That glove hand, omg is all I can say. He just had some amazing saves tonight. Wow oh wow.

I do have to say the streaming isn’t that great. It’s hard to tell who is out there and if I enlarge the screen it gets all blurry. But it is better then nothing!

Carcillo also got his first assist as a flyer tonight. It was awesome. He took a high stick to the face but still managed to shoot it on net. Lupul got the rebound for a goal.

Flyers win 4-1. I was a little surprised the Preds couldn’t get much offense going. They have been averaging like 5 goals a game recently and Rinne has been spot on. I didn’t see/hear much on Suter. He must have been having an off night.

Flyers Win in OT. Bad Coaching to Blame for Coyotes Play?

The defense really let the Coyotes down last night. 3 of the Flyers 4 goals were a direct result of Dmen being out of position. Surprisingly one of them was Sauer. He is usually spot on. I think part of the problem is that Dmo is out. Whenever he is out, the D seem to struggle. The other goal was just a bad bounce off a player (it looked like it went off one of our guys legs). Telly was perfectly positioned for the puck but the redirct was something he couldn’t have seen coming. Telly played a great game. I hope they keep him in against the Rangers. Let Bryz know he can’t just have the job, he needs to earn it.

The highlight of the game was Carcillo finally got his first goal of the season. And it was a beauty. He dumped it in and Hanzal went after it behind the net, and so did Biron. Hanzal was able to get the puck to Carcillo who had an open net. Biron could not get back in position fast enough. The look on Carcillo’s face was priceless.

Hanzal also had a pretty goal in the second. Then Fridge had one in the third to put us up 3-2. Unfortunately the boys couldn’t hold on to the lead and the Flyers tied it up, forcing OT. We even went into OT with a man advantage but couldn’t convert.

Which brings me to another point, the Power Play. Our PP looks more like a PK far too often. We let the other team control the puck too much. I am starting to doubt the coaching staff. They seemed to have regressed. Last year the coaching staff seemed to be improving but it looks as if they have taken a large step back. We have a very talented group of guys out there on the ice, why can’t they win or even play more consistently? I have decided it has to be a coaching issue because mostly I cannot come up with another reason why a team with this much talent can’t play.

They dump and chase when they should carry it in. They carry it in when they should dump and chase. They pass when they have open scoring lanes. They shoot when the lanes are blocked (mostly shooting into the player 2 feet in front of them, causing it to bounce off and that player getting a break-away). They change lines far too often and far too slowly. The D has been looking horrible the last couple of games, the forwards can’t score. They look disconnected with each other on the ice. They aren’t communicating well. They look more like individuals on the ice, not a unit. I believe that is a direct result of bad coaching.

Also, I think Gretz and Maloney need to get over their man-crushes. If Jovo isn’t playing well, sit him. If Mueller isn’t playing well, sit him. If Bryz is looking bad, pull him or sit him the next game. They keep saying you have to work hard and show you want it, or you sit. Well Mueller looks like he could care less if he’s playing or not and Jovo doesn’t even try to correct his mistakes anymore (at least when Yandle realizes he messed up, he makes the effort to fix it). Sit those guys. They act like they don’t want to be there, so don’t put them in for a game or two. Send them awake up call. Put McGrattan in. Yes, he doesn’t skate well and he is not the best player, but he gives it his all when he gets to play. He also gives it his all in practice too. He wants it. He is hungry for it. So use him to send a message.

Those are my reasons for thinking it is more of a coaching problem then the players. I am now off the Gretzky bandwagon. I was all for giving the guy a chance, but he’s had enough of a chance and the fans deserve to see a great product. We pay them with our hard earned money and I don’t want to see a half ass job out there. This, along with another entry I am currently working on, are reasons I may not renew my tickets next year.

Playoffs

Well, it’s been awhile since I’ve written about the playoffs. I skipped a whole round!

It is Detroit and Pittsburgh in the finals. The first game is Saturday. I am not sure if I will watch it. I’ve got something going on that afternoon and am not sure what time it will be done. I will be recording it though, as this promises to be a really good series.

Detroit is the veterans while Pittsburgh is the young guys. Detroit has the dirty players while Pittsburgh has the whiners and divers. I think this will go all seven games. If it does, I will have to beg my dad to record it since I will be busy that day and not able to watch it.

The Detroit/Dallas series was very good. Turco played his little heart out. He was probably one of the best players for Dallas. He definitely got them out of the first round and the second round. If his teammates had been able to muster up the offense, he could have gotten them into the finals. I’m not going to go on and on about these series because they are over.

Pittsburgh and Philadelphia was a sad series. Philadelphia looked like a completely different team then the previous games. They did lose a lot of players to injuries but that should have made the other players step up. Briere did exactly what I thought he would. Disappeared.

It's turning out to be a sad day for me

Iget home and turn on the Caps game. Its tied. Then it ges to OT. Then the Caps get a penalty. Then the Flyers get a goal. NOOOOOO. Fuck. And those were the exact words out of my mouth.

So it's Flyers and Montreal (Go Montreal!)
and Rangers and Penguins (Go Rangers!)

And now currently I am watching the Flames/Sharks game and it was 2-2 and hten suddenly it's 5-2 Sharks. Flames pull Kipper and put in the great Cujo though! Go Cujo!!!

Looks like it will be Detroit and Colorado (Go Colorado!)
and Dallas and Sharks - unless of course Calgary bounces back (Go Dallas!)

I was looking through forcasters website and found this today:
BOOK OF DANIEL The poster boy for "old-time hockey" Daniel Carcillo had a goal and two minor penalties in the first period alone against the Dallas Stars Friday. The NHL leader in penalty minutes added a power play goal in the second period and an empty netter in the third. INTEL Despite being the polar opposite to his former style of play, Phoenix Coyotes coach Wayne Gretzky loves Carcillo. With the ice time The Great One is giving him (nearly 13 minutes a game), the feisty winger will be the penalty minute king for years to come.

Also, Nashville extends the contract of all their coaches. It looks like they will try to resign Ellis and Suter. Although with 8 dmen, they may need to make a trade. I'll take Suter and give you Jovo. Straight up. Good thing I am not a GM. I would end up with all dmen and Goalies. And a couple of forwards.

Nothing new in rumors. Same old stuff floating around out there.

Well that's it for me today. It's been a long day.

The Final Game: Coyotes at Ducks

Wow, what a game. The first period was held at 0-0. Bryz had an awesome first period. And second period. Apparently Carcillo wanted the hat trick again. His first goal came off the shot of Kyle Turris. So our newest youngster gets his first NHL point. Vrbata was really trying to get a goal but Carcillo ended up getting it.

We played hard but then seemed to sit back again in the third with our 2-0 lead. Bad idea. Ducks came back to tie it. The game went into OT. Damn jovo so freaking slow, anaheim almost got a goal on a break away. Mueller and Ballard both had a good chance. Just couldnt put it past Hiller. Turris had some good moves during OT. We had it in but the official waived it off, it went in after time ran out. So we have to go to a freaking shoot out. Even though we lost the shoot out, we got to see Turris score a sick goal. Man does that boy have skills! He is going to be gold for us in shoot outs. Him, Mueller and maybe Vrbata can be money for us in the future.

Interesting PP on which Carcillo got his first goal. No defensemen. 4 rookies. It was Mueller and Turris on the point. Vrbata, Carcillo, and I cant remember the fourth one.

With this game, we are in the 8th spot for the draft. Tomorrow Versus will air the draft lottery. I plan on watching, so I will update at that time.

Heres my predictions for the first round winners:
Detroit over Nashville (even though Im hoping nashville has the surprise upset, it wont happen)
I think Colorado will upset Minnesota.
San Jose will take Calgary
Anaheim and Dallas is a difficult one. I think Anaheim will ultimately win that one.

Canadiens will beat the Bruins
Ottawa over Pens
Im hoping for the upset, Caps over Flyers. I think the Caps have really come into their own
Im going Rangers over Devils. I just think NYR will take it. Plus Id like to see Sjo advance. :)

We'll see how I do. Cant wait for the playoffs to start. This time next year the coyotes will be in! I just know it.

And Carcillos going to get his 25 goals next year. And way less PIMs. Seems the refs have stopped giving him crap calls. finally.

Its going to be a long summer!

Coyotes at Flyers and Chris Simon

First off, I just want to say the suspension handed down to Chris Simon is retarded. He gets 30 games, which means he could be back in March and in time for the playoffs. This is also the longest suspentsion given by the nhl. The person who had the previous longest suspension? Chris Simon. Earlier today one of the articles I read said that Coach Ted Nolan called the suspension "extreme". And stomping on Rutuu's foot was not extreme? Nolan can support his player and still support the NHLs decision. I have no respect for the Islanders organization.

Now for the good news, Coyotes continue their win streak by beating the flyers 3-2. I was getting a little worried during this game as we were down 2-0 and usually we arent able to come back and win. But to those who say it was just luck, fuck you. At least two of those goals were pure talent. Yandle started it off by just being able to see the ice, see Biron didnt know where the puck was, and jumped in and hit it in. Then Doan started out on a breakaway, Sjo comes flying down the ice and Doan totally tricks the Flyers out by passing to Sjo and in it goes. And the last goal was a beaut from Mueller. There was a hooking penalty against Jovo, that so was not a penalty. All he did was take the puck away from a Flyer.

In other news, the Flyer fans didnt seem as rude or retarded as the Devil fans. They actually blamed their players and coach, not "oh the coyotes are just lucky" blah blah blah. A few of them of course had to say stuff about the coyotes sucking and getting luck, but you expect that from a few.

Tomorrow night we battle the Sharks in San Jose. They have definatly been a problem for us this year. Hopefully we can pull this one off. We are on a roll and have had tons of energy and played hard. Im going to guess it will be another close game.
